It's pretty fun, looks and sounds like an authentic 8-bit game but it's pretty damn easy. But for the price I'd still recommend for any fans of the good ol' NES. Stupid quick man lasers aside, this is an awesome 8-bit style ninja gaiden / contra game!. If you browse steam for long time, sometimes you find GEM! Like this one! I never heard about this developer, but stiill, je earned place in my heart with his truly outstanding retro aesthetics. He know what to do! Graphics are amazind and unlike others wannabe nes games, dificullty curve is great, controls exactly like contra and other retro games. All in all, if you don't have this game and you are fan of NES. This is MUST BUY thing!. At first glance, Alien Splatter Redux may look like a generic pseudo-retro action-platformer. But fortnately, it isn't. Like Oniken and Odallus: The Dark Call, Alien Splatter Redux is a simple, yet well executed game that would feel at home on the Famicom in the late 80's. I would call it a mix of Contra, Solbrain/Shatterhand and Gun-Dec/Vice: Project Doom, with the eventual nod to Ninja Gaiden 2 and Mega Man 2. For the price, the game is a steal, and if you enjoy 8-bit action-platformers, do yourself a favor and play this game.. This is a really well done NES-style action platformer. Others have compared it to Contra, and at first glance, it does resemble that series. However, I find that the platforming has a larger role in the gameplay of Alien Splatter than it does in the Contra games - whereas Contra was more of a shoot-em-up with some light platforming. I wouldn't consider Alien Splatter to be a shoot-em-up. It is an action game. The level designs remind me more of something from Ninja Gaiden than Contra. At any rate, no matter what popular NES franchise you compare it to - it is a very solid retro title that actually looks and feels like an NES game. It could use some more variety in the enemies (the only real let-down in the game), but other than that, I really can't find much to complain about. The graphics are spot-on, the controls are tight enough, and even the music is decent. At this price, it's an absolute steal, and it is better than many of the retro games that I've paid much more money for. It's an easy up-vote from me.. I grew up with old 8-bit, NES platformers and this game really hits home for me. I think that the developer(s) did a knockout job in recreating the atmosphere and feel of games from my childhood with this little gem, complete with a satirically simplified story, spot-on controls, and a cheesy but fun sci-fi theme. Aliens have invaded and demanded that we surrender all of our "base" to them or they will destroy us. But not to worry, because the U.S. government is going to send an entire, joint operations assault against them complete with special forces, fleets of aircraft and navy vessels, nuclear mi......err.....wait, actually, they are sending only one guy against them. But fortunately, they are sending their "best dude" to save the world. These alien invaders are total pushovers however. Nevermind the fact that they are pink, they only come in about 4 varieties, (excluding bosses) are lousy shots, and only take a few hits to kill. But they have one terrible strength that threatens all of mankind. They are masters of always strategically situating themselves in the most God-awful moving platform areas in existence and staying there. With this deadly skill, they intend to enslave us and take over the world. Can you, the "best dude" overcome their scheme and rescue all of humanity? This was such a fun game. The graphics are designed to emulate the look and feel of older NES titles with a bonus stage that looks like a game boy level. There is a health bar, but to be honest, I don't think that I ever died once from running out of health. You will almost always die from falling off of a pit. Stage 4 and 6 are in my opinion the hardest stages. I hope that you enjoy this game as much as I did and thank you for reading my review. Also, thank you to the developers for making such a fun and inexpensive game for me to enjoy.. I grew up with old 8-bit, NES platformers and this game really hits home for me.
